Coping With Stress

Many of us face stressful, overwhelming challenges that cause strong emotions. Stress can result in feelings of sadness, worry, numbness, changes in sleep and appetite patterns, as well as physical reactions such as headaches and body pains. Coping involves adjusting to unusual demands; these require more significant effort. It’s important to remember that learning to cope with stress in a healthy way will make you and the people you care about happy and more resilient to future stressors. Some find taking a break from watching and reading the news, including social media, beneficial. It’s crucial to take care of your body by exercising, getting plenty of sleep, and practicing deep breathing or meditation. Engaging in fun activities also helps.

If stress can impact all aspects of life and symptoms of stress can differ from person to person. It is important to recognize when you are feeling stressed before the stress becomes chronic. When emotions and feelings become more than one can handle, sometimes people turn to drugs and alcohol. Respect and understanding is at the core of what we do. Whether you may face life’s daily stress or a chronic mental illness, we are here for you.
