Normal Anxiety or Something More?

Posted May 29, 2020

There are several different types of anxiety disorders from generalized to obsessive-compulsive, but they all break down into three major categories that can help you better understand your specific issues. These are Anxiety Disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive, and Related Disorders, and Trauma- and Stressor-Related Disorders. Symptoms may be difficult to pinpoint because no two patients experience anxiety the same way; however,  there are many common symptoms including rapid heartbeat, insomnia, nausea, dizziness, feelings of panic or fear, cold sweat, tingles or numbness in the extremities, dry mouth, shaking, and shortness of breath. When anxiety “attacks” are frequent or triggered by events or conditions not commonly stressful, they may be the result of a disorder that requires treatment.

Anxiety disorders and depression are treatable and many people experience meaningful symptom relief and improvement in their quality of life with professional care. If people have more than one anxiety disorder or if they suffer from other co-existing conditions, treatment may take longer. Plains Area Mental Health has experienced providers who will conduct a comprehensive assessment and develop an individualized treatment plan.  We are here to help.  Call one of our offices today or take our free on-line assessment on this website.

P.S. A common sign of an anxiety disorder is when anxiety prevents an individual from completely normal tasks such as socializing or driving a car.
